Press Release: Governor Little Vetoes Revenge on Voters Act

Governor Little Vetoes Revenge on Voters Act

For Immediate Release, April 5, 2019--------------------------------------------------------------

Idaho State Capitol - On Friday, Governor Brad Little vetoed the Revenge on Voters Act. The legislation narrowly passed the House and the Senate and had overwhelming public opposition. The veto will also make the Revenge on Voter “trailer” bill null and void because it was an amendment to the original bill. Idaho’s initiative process will remain unchanged.

“The Governor made the best choice for the people of Idaho.” Representative Mat Erpelding/(D-Boise) explained. “When the legislature ignored the hours and hours of testimony against this legislation, the Governor was listening. The Idaho Democrats stand with him in defending our constitution, regardless of the political pressures.”

“The decision to veto the Revenge on Voters Act will be one of the most important part of the Governor’s legacy.” Representative Elaine Smith/(D-Boise) said. “He has shown that his administration will prioritize people over special interests.”

“The Revenge on Voters Act would have made it impossible for rural voters to have any say in what issues go on the ballot.” Senator Michelle Stennett/(D-Ketchum) said. “I am pleased that the Governor has shown that he will stand with rural Idahoans.”

“After a long battle, we have finally killed this terrible piece of legislation.” Senator David Nelson/(D-Moscow) said. “This just goes to show that when you make decisions behind closed doors with only wealthy, special interest groups in mind, Idahoans will hold you accountable.”
